Mobile Elections At University of Johannesburg

About the Customer

Proudly South African, the university is alive down to its African roots, and well-prepared for its role in actualising the potential that higher education holds for the continent’s development. UJ has transformed into a diverse, inclusive, transformational and collegial institution, with a student population of over 50 000, of which more than 3000 are international students from 80 countries. This makes UJ one of the largest contact universities in South Africa (SA) from the 26 public universities that make up the higher education system.

The Feedback

BY DR. TINUS VAN ZYL.
SENIOR DIRECTOR: CENTRAL ACADEMIC ADMINISTRATION

What was your main requirement of the system and did you achieve your aim?

UJ successfully used the ITS Mobile Election system for the election of the Executive Committee of Convocation.

On a scale of 1-5 how easy was it to use the mobile election solution through ITS integrator?

The system is very user friendly and easy to use (4).

What did you like most about the feature?

The system provided us with the opportunity to invite close to 200 000 convocation members to be part of the voting process, even if they were working internationally.

What did you not like about the Mobile Elections feature?

Unfortunately, if we did not have recent contact details for convocation members, they had to contact us to have their details updated first before their login details could be emailed to them.

Would you recommend the ITS Mobile election solutions to other institutions?

We would definitely recommend the ITS Mobile Election system to other Institutions. Any voting process can be drastically enhanced in the form of user convenience (not having to physically cast a vote at a specific location), wider reach of the voter population and ultimately, elevating the trust in the governance process.
